Our Mission

The 1971: Genocide-Torture Archive & Museum is dedicated to preserving historical truth, honoring the memory of the martyrs, and educating the global community. Our mission is defined by the following core pillars:

  • Honoring and Remembering Victims: To permanently keep alive the memory of the victims of the 1971 genocide perpetrated by the Pakistani military and their collaborators, while inspiring society to confront hatred, resist genocidal ideologies, and prevent such atrocities in the future.

  • Evidence Rescue and Public Access: To actively rescue and retrieve physical and historical pieces of evidence related to the genocide, ensuring they are meticulously preserved and made fully accessible to both the public and researchers, both onsite at the museum and through online platforms.

  • Documentation and Testimonies: To comprehensively record definitive evidence of the genocide, capturing the live testimonies of survivors and detailing the individual records of the victims to counter historical distortion.

  • Preservation of Historic Sites: To systematically identify, map, and preserve mass killing fields (Badhyabhumi), mass graves, and former torture centers or concentration camps across Bangladesh.

  • Academic and Research Excellence: To introduce specialized academic and certificate courses that enhance methodological research on the 1971 Liberation War and genocide studies.

  • Scholarly Contribution: To make an immense contribution to academia by conducting intensive research projects, providing dedicated research fellowships, and regularly publishing peer-reviewed journals, books, and comprehensive reports covering the Liberation War, genocide, museology, and the political and social history of Bangladesh.

  • Global Awareness and Education: To inform, educate, and engage domestic and international visitors regarding the root causes, execution, and long-term consequences of the 1971 Bangladesh Genocide, while contextualizing it alongside other global genocides in human history.
